I just had a phone call about the concert tomorrow (12/3) at the Enmore theater in Sydney, saying the concert had been cancelled as Al Di Meola had had to leave the country quickly.

Anyone any info on why? Such a shame - was so looking forward to it.

Our Australian promoter Claire Mason from Belle Promotions has unfortunately breached her contract with us and has refused to pay as per the contract. Her ill regard of not adhering to the terms of this contract caused our group great concern that we would ever be paid and as a result of her missed payments we had to make the unfortunate decision to leave Australia prematurely before finding ourselves at the end with no payment at all! I want to personally apologize for this unfortunate position as a result of a deceiving person acting as a responsible promoter who lured us with false promises even in contract form! I hope someday we can return with the honesty and integrity of a professional promoter!
Deep apologies to all! Al Di Meola

Too bad Al, do you have any plans to fill the time with a few US shows? (hint, hint)

So sorry about the tour, Al.

Maybe the best thing for you and the guys after such a letdown is to get back in the studio and finish the new cd.
The way I see it - when you are given lemons you might as well make lemonade.

That's a good suggestion, Wendy. No better way to banish demons. :D

Yes we will take this unfortunate turn of events into an opportunity for the continuation on our new studio CD which is now close to being finished before heading back to Europe from April thru end of the year! Love to all! A.D.

Great news, Al.
You are playing NY in June - so it is not all about Europe.

I notice that 'cbelle's posting has disappeared and there is no longer a cbelle member...

While there are always 2 sides to every story, I feel pretty miffed as a fan in Australia (we are grateful to get bands coming such a long way to play for such a small population), that it's beyond the powers of 2 groups of people to reach an agreement. I've no idea of the full story and don't actually care, because what I really wanted to see was Al playing some fantastic guitar in such a great venue as the Enmore.

Now all I have to remember the event is a couple of tickets and a sour taste in my mouth :(

Hope you can make it here in the future - I'll buy another ticket!
Antony

I understand your frustration as we in the band are also feeling the same but we came here with the intention to play and not to be lured here under the falsehood of a phony contract. This kind of thing doesn't happen on this scale in the world of anything I could compare this to in any of my past tours but I can assure you, we did everything to help this promoter who actually didn't have the money they promised to cover the promise she made in the contract with us! We agreed to just about halve the deal just to save the tour and help her out but because she was so unprofessional and flaky with everyday being a complete fiasco we felt we would wind up in the end not even getting half of what we thought! Truth is she missed 2 important dates of payment and because I somehow trusted her I took the gamble of flying everyone around the world for a tour we all hoped would happen! I am sure this promoter will loose all her credentials and never work again in Australia! I remain so sad and sorry for everyone involved but the only one to blame here is her! A.D.

Hi Al. I'm sorry about what happened in Australia, taking a look at the schedule, with about 18 dates, it promised to be an awesome tour.. :(
Well, let's wait for the new CD now, and for the europeans dates too - I'll be in Milano all the three concerts at the Blue Note in May. See ya there!
